Log & Timber Structures is a family owned log home building business located in Lima, NY. Based on the passion of our founder, Andy Torpey, we strive to build timeless log and timber homes utilizing old world craftsmanship with modern building techniques.
Getting Personal
Andy was always building something, from furniture and hand turned accessories on his lathe, to elaborate garages, pole barns, Adirondack camps and home remodeling. His education in applied science in automotive technology allowed him to make the bread and butter to fulfill his ultimate dream of building homes. Since he was a young child he learned from his father, grandfather and uncles who each built their homes. It was thus a natural step for him to build his own home and becoming part of his family legacy. It wasn’t until his first trip out west that he saw the vision for his own home, a log and timber home. Through this labor of love, he discovered existing log home technologies could be adapted with today’s better building products and techniques. The result was a more efficient home both in energy and design, but a style that retained the old world rustic qualities he was inspired by. It was after his home was complete that he realized it was a practice that could be shared with the world and his own legacy would begin in Log and Timber Structures.
The Nuts and Bolts of our Homes
The design of each log and timber home begins with Andy’s inspiration, similar to an artist, but with the thoroughness of an engineer. We take our inspiration to our trusted local architect and engineer team where an overall design is born, however it doesn’t stop there. As the project progresses, like the artist’s canvas, Andy will tweak sections to his nearly obsessive standard to make sure that it results in the highest quality design and finish.
Each home is sited, built and finished by Andy and his specialized team of local subcontractors. In the building industry, change is a constant, every new product is evaluated to determine if it will enhance the quality of the home. Every product used in our log homes is selected because it's the best possible product for the application.
The interior finish of the home is equally important to the overall feel of our homes and each part is selected, crafted or installed by Andy. Typically, we select finishes inspired by the natural balance of the outdoors. For example, our cabinets are a locally fabricated solid maple, dovetail construction, countertops are granite in the kitchen and bathrooms, and complimentary paint colors that set off the warming allure of a log and timber home.
